A
new polar research ship, named after the presenter and naturalist Sir David Attenborough, has left a shipyard in Birkenhead to test scientific equipment and conduct sea trials. When it finally enters service, the RRS Sir David Attenborough will look at how climate change is affecting Antarctica and its surrounding waters.
Aboard the ship will be Boaty McBoatface, the robotic submarine named in honour of an online poll that suggested the cheeky name for the polar ship.
