Crews on Monday evening continued to search for a 12-year-old boy from Fremont, who was swept out to sea by the strong surf at Cowell Ranch State Beach in San Mateo County in the afternoon.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Department told KCBS Radio the missing boy, along with an adult male and another eight-year-old, were standing on the beach south of Half Moon Bay, when they were swept away about 100 yards offshore by a wave around 3:45 p.m.
The adult and eight-year-old managed to wash up on shore, but the 12-year-old male is still missing.
Images posted with the tweet show that emergency responders, firefighters and at least one helicopter unit were on the scene conducting the search.
The rescue effort is being conducted by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department, the Coast Guard, California State Park Rangers and the San Mateo County Harbor District.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
