In second-place through 36 holes, the Catamounts slid four spots into a three-way tie for sixth with both Wright State and Kennesaw State with a final score of 883.
For the second-straight day, Kúld parred 14 of the 18 holes on Saturday. Even-par through his first 13 holes, he came home with bogeys on four of his final five for a 4-over round of 75, advancing one spot on the last day of the event. The Akureyri, Iceland native finished fifth in the tournament field with 25 total pars over the 54-hole event.
Sophomore Pierre Viallaneix slipped five spots in the final standings, coming home tied for 15th overall with a three-round score of 6-over par, 219. Four-over par at the turn, the Apopka, Fla., product played the back nine at 2-over par after a bogey and double-bogey on his final two holes of the tournament. Viallaneix posted a team-best eight birdies, tied for the fourth-most.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five were junior Louis Theys, down two spots into a tie for 32nd at 224, and freshman Presten Richardson in a tie for 49th overall after a final-round 80 for a combined score of 228. Sophomore Magnus Pedersen slipped into a tie for 53rd overall on the last day of competition, posting a 54-hole score of 230. Theys shot par on 14 of his final 18 holes, but a trio of bogeys and one double-bogey relegate him to 5-over, 76, on Saturday.
Sophomore Quinton Metz led WCU's three individuals in 80th overall with a three-day score of 244, while seniors Zach Caudill and Michael Coe came home 85th and 86th overall with scores of 253 and 254, respectively.
Jacksonville State held off Appalachian State for the team championship by three strokes, 870-to-873, with Southern Conference foe Chattanooga finishing third, nine strokes off the pace at 879. Western Kentucky advanced three spots in the final standings to finish fourth at 880 with Connecticut charging four positions to post a top-five finish, fifth at 881.
Chattanooga's A.J. Lintunen finished off the tournament with a 1-over par round of 72 on Saturday to claim individual medalist honors with an event score of 2-under par 211. Dylan Lukes of Appalachian State was the runner-up, three strokes off the pace at 214.
Western Carolina returns to action March 15-16 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C. The 54-hole tournament includes 36 holes on Monday, March 15 with the final round the next day.
