Skol! Here come the Vikings.

Key league wins on Thursday and Friday helped St. Joseph-by-the-Sea (12-4-2) surge to the No. 2 spot in Staten Island’s CHSAA standings after upending Moore Catholic and Monsignor Farrell, respectively.

The Vikings and Lions have matching 4-2 division records, though Sea holds a 2-1 head-to-head tiebreaker, while St. Peter’s (6-1) sits atop the standings. Farrell and Sea each have two league contests remaining.

After topping the Mavericks, 8-3, on Thursday, the Vikings blanked the Lions, 4-0, in Friday’s pivotal bout.

Joe Ciancimino and Nicky DiMartino teamed on a four-hit shutout, racking up seven combined strikeouts in the win over Farrell, while Sea’s top of the order set the tone.

The Vikings first three hitters in the order -- Anthony Palermo, Ciancimino, and Anthony Vigliotti -- teamed for six hits and three RBI. Ciancimino crushed a solo homer in the third inning.

Vincent Caterina singled in a run to round out the scoring, while left fielder Nick Fazio preserved the shutout after covering a ton of ground to secure a catch in the left field corner.

“Fazio catch was one of the top five catches I have seen at any level,” said Sea coach Nelson Ortiz. “He got an amazing jump on the ball. Definitely the catch of the year to hold Farrell off the score board.

“I am extremely proud of how we bounced back after a couple of tough losses,” he added.

The Vikings close out league play with games against Moore and St. Peter’s next week.

“We are clicking at the right time to end the season right before the playoffs,” said Ortiz. “One game at a time with two left. I like our chances.”

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea 8, Moore Catholic 3

Devin Malvasio (5 Ks) earned the win over Moore before Joe Petrucci came on to close it out.

Robert Salafia stroked a pair of hits and collected three RBI in the win.

Ciancimino and Vigliotti each singled home a run, while Vin Caterina added a sac fly RBI.
